We designed the Live Stronger for Longer movement with the Ministry of Health - Manatū Hauora, Te Tahū Hauora Health Quality & Safety Commission, and the wider health sector.
We are working with these partners to make a difference to older adults by investing in programmes and services that help to reduce falls and prevent injuries so that they can keep living the life they want.
Reducing harm from falls is an important component of Manatū Hauora’s aim to maintain and improve the health of older adults. They support the integrated approach of the 'Live Stronger for Longer' movement, which clearly aligns with their Healthy Ageing strategy.

The Health Quality & Safety Commission works with clinicians, health providers, consumers and their families and whānau to improve health and disability services and reduce patient harm.
The Commission embraces and supports the ‘Live Stronger for Longer’ movement. It has a strong focus on falls prevention, including:
Age Concern is a charity working with older adults. Their vision is for older adults to live valued lives in an inclusive society. They promote wellbeing, rights, respect and dignity for older adults, and work to make sure they’re treated equitably and with cultural respect.
They also provide expert information and support services in response to older adults’ needs - especially programmes focused on health promotion, ageing well, social connection, elder abuse, and neglect prevention. They are active and vocal on relevant issues and work to make sure older adults stay connected with their families, friends, workplaces, and community. Their 35 local Age Concerns across New Zealand are the first port of call for older adults in their communities.
St John ambulance staff are working with the health sector to develop falls prevention referral pathways across New Zealand. If you have a fall in your home, call 111, any time – day or night – they’re there to help. When they attend to you at home they'll look after your immediate needs and carry out a basic falls risk assessment. If they feel it’s safe for you to stay at home, they’ll give you a referral to your local falls prevention service, who will then arrange the most appropriate support for you.
Making sure older adults stay healthy and independent in their own homes is their number one goal. They’re proud of the role their ambulance staff play in linking people to the care and support available to them in their communities and supporting patients to ‘Live Stronger for Longer’.
Osteoporosis New Zealand (ONZ) is a national charitable trust dedicated to raising awareness of bone health, and improving care and outcomes for people who are at risk of - or living with - osteoporosis. ONZ’s aim is for all New Zealanders to have stronger, better bones and to avoid or suffer fewer fractures.
They support this aim by providing information and educational material to the public and making recommendations to Government and the medical profession for improved management strategies for osteoporosis.
